Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 165 — Bhīṣma’s Appraisal and Karṇa’s Rebuttal (भीष्म–कर्ण विवादः)
विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ संमतौ रथसत्तमौ । कृतिनौ समरे तात दृढवीर्यपराक्रमौ,अवन्तीदेशके दोनों वीर राजकुमार विन्द और अनुविन्द श्रेष्ठ रथी माने गये हैं। तात! वे युद्धकलाके पण्डित तथा सुदृढ़ बल एवं पराक्रमसे सम्पन्न हैं
vindānuvindāv āvantyau saṃmatau rathasattamau | kṛtinau samare tāta dṛḍhavīryaparākramau ||
毗湿摩说道:“阿槃提的两位王子——温达与阿奴温达——被公认为车战勇士中的翘楚。孩子啊,他们在战阵中技艺纯熟:通晓兵战之术,且具坚实之力与不屈之勇。”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse models a dharmic, unsentimental evaluation of warriors: acknowledging skill and valor is part of responsible counsel in war, because ethical decision-making must account for real capacities and consequences.
Bhīṣma is describing notable fighters, praising Vindā and Anuvindā of Avanti as eminent chariot-warriors, proficient in combat and possessed of firm strength and prowess.
