Gloating over another’s suffering and speaking with arrogant pride invites reversal: the distress one celebrates can become the seed of one’s own downfall and grief. The verse warns against adharma rooted in vikattha (boastful arrogance) and highlights moral causality.
Sañjaya addresses the king and foretells that the one who is currently exulting and boasting about the Pandavas’ hardship will soon be overwhelmed by sorrow along with his sons and kin—an ominous prediction of the consequences leading into the Kurukṣetra conflict.
