Karna–Krishna Dialogue: Omens and Dream-Signs
duryodhanake vaśaṃ meṃ rahanevāle jitane rājā aura rājakuṃvara haiṃ, ve śastroṃdvārā mṛtyuko prāpta hokara uttama gati lābha kareṃge || iti śrīmahābhārate udyogaparvaṇi bhagavadyānaparvaṇi karṇopanivāde bhagavaddhākye dvicatvāriṃśadadhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ |

The verse frames the tragic consequence of wrongful political allegiance: those bound to Duryodhana’s domination will fall in armed conflict, yet their death in the great war is presented as leading to an elevated posthumous state—highlighting the Mahabharata’s tension between moral error in life and the complex, sometimes redemptive, outcomes of destiny and karma.
Sanjaya reports a concluding pronouncement within the Bhagavad-yana (Krishna’s peace mission) context, tied to Karna’s declaration of intent. It functions as a closing summary: the allied kings and princes under Duryodhana are foretold to die by weapons and attain a higher destiny, and the chapter colophon marks the end of the adhyaya.
