Kṛṣṇasya Karṇam Prati Sāntvavacana
Kṛṣṇa’s Conciliatory Address to Karṇa
alaṁ yuddhena tair vīraiḥ śāmya tvaṁ kuru-vṛddhaye | mā gamaḥ sa-sutāmātyaḥ sa-balaś ca yamākṣayam, rājan ||
Bhīṣma urges restraint and reconciliation: war driven by pride and attachment brings no true benefit, while peace pursued for the welfare of the dynasty aligns with dharma and preserves life.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war counsel, Bhīṣma addresses the king and warns him not to proceed to battle with his sons, ministers, and army; he advises making a settlement with the heroic Pāṇḍavas to avert destruction.
