स्खलितार्थ पुनस्तात संत्यजन्ति च बान्धवा: | अप्यस्मिन् नाश्वसन्ते च जुगुप्सन्ते च तादूशम्,इसके विपरीत जिसका धन नष्ट हो गया है, उसके मित्र और भाई-बन्धु भी उसे त्याग देते हैं। उसपर विश्वास नहीं करते हैं तथा उसके-जैसे लोगोंकी निन्दा भी करते रहते हैं
skhalitārthaḥ punastāta saṁtyajanti ca bāndhavāḥ | apy asmin nāśvasante ca jugupsante ca tādṛśam |
“然而相反啊,父亲:当一个人的财富滑落、资用断绝之时,连亲族也会弃他而去。他们不再信任他,并以轻蔑之眼看待此等人,口中亦多讥毁。”
पुत्र उवाच
The verse highlights a moral and social critique: worldly relationships often depend on prosperity. When wealth and capacity fail, even close kin may withdraw trust and show contempt—implying that true dharma requires steadiness, compassion, and loyalty beyond material success.
A son addresses his father, reflecting on how society treats a person who has lost his wealth and standing: relatives abandon him, people stop trusting him, and they disparage those in such a fallen condition.
