Adhyāya 128 — Proposal to Restrain Keśava; Sātyaki’s Warning and Vidura–Dhṛtarāṣṭra Counsel
दुःसहायस्य लुब्धस्य धृतराष्ट्रो5श्ुते फलम् । दुष्ट सहायकोंसे युक्त, मूढ़, अज्ञानी, लोभी और दुरात्मा पुत्रको अपना राज्य सौंप देनेका फल महाराज धुृतराष्ट्र स्वयं भोग रहे हैं || १३ ह ।।
duḥsahāyasya lubdhasya dhṛtarāṣṭro ’śnute phalam | kathaṃ hi svajane bhedam upekṣeta mahīpatiḥ | bhinnaḥ hi svajanena tvāṃ prahasiṣyanti śatravaḥ ||
毗舍波耶那说道:“持国王正亲自品尝把国土托付给那贪婪、愚昧、心术败坏、又被恶友谋臣环绕的儿子所结下的苦果。君主怎能对自家族人间蔓延的裂痕置若罔闻?一旦你与亲族离散,仇敌只会讥笑你。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler must not ignore divisions among his own kin and subjects; empowering a greedy, deluded heir surrounded by wicked advisers brings inevitable consequences, including loss of authority and public ridicule by enemies.
Vaiśampāyana comments on Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s predicament: by handing power to a morally compromised son with bad counsel, Dhṛtarāṣṭra now suffers the results, while internal Kuru-family dissension makes the kingdom vulnerable and invites enemy scorn.
