Udyoga Parva — Gandhārī’s Counsel to Duryodhana
pratyakṣam etad bhavatāṃ yad vakṣyāmi hitaṃ vacaḥ | bhavatām ānukūlyena yadi roceta bhāratāḥ ||
Beneficial advice should be grounded in what can be directly verified (pratyakṣa) and should be adopted when it accords with one’s rightful disposition and welfare—emphasizing practical, experience-confirmed counsel rather than mere assertion.
Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, signals that he is about to deliver a piece of welfare-oriented counsel to the Bhāratas, stressing that it is evident from their own experience and inviting them to apply it if they find it agreeable and fitting.
