Adhyāya 12: Devas’ Petition to Nahūṣa; Bṛhaspati on Śaraṇāgata-Dharma; Indrāṇī’s Strategic Delay
देवा ऊचु इन्द्राणीमानयिष्यामो यथेच्छसि दिवस्पते । जहि क्रोधमिमं वीर प्रीतो भव सुरेश्वर,देवता बोले--स्वर्गलोकके स्वामी वीर देवेश्वर! आपकी जैसी इच्छा है, उसके अनुसार हमलोग इन्द्राणीको आपकी सेवामें ले आयेंगे। आप यह क्रोध छोड़िये और प्रसन्न होइये
devā ūcuḥ—indrāṇīm ānayiṣyāmo yathecchasi divaspate | jahi krodham imaṃ vīra prīto bhava sureśvara ||
诸神说道:“天界之主啊,我们必依你所愿,将因陀罗尼带来侍奉你。勇士、众神之王啊,息此怒火,心怀欢悦吧。”
शल्य उवाच
Even legitimate power is undermined by uncontrolled anger; the ethical ideal is to relinquish wrath and restore harmony through restraint and reconciliation.
The gods address Indra, promising to bring Indrāṇī to him as he desires, and urge him to give up his anger and become pleased—an attempt to pacify a divine ruler and reestablish order.
