वक्तुमिच्छामि तु सखे यथा जानासि मां पुरा । न तथा वित्तवानस्मि क्षीणं वित्तं च मे सखे,'सखे! फिर भी मैं एक बात कहना चाहता हूँ। आप पहलेसे मुझे जैसा धनवान् समझते हैं, वैसा धनसम्पन्न अब मैं नहीं रह गया हूँ। मित्र! मेरा वैभव इन दिनों क्षीण हो गया है
vaktum icchāmi tu sakhe yathā jānāsi māṃ purā | na tathā vittavān asmi kṣīṇaṃ vittaṃ ca me sakhe ||
那罗陀说道:“朋友,我仍想对你说一件事。你从前所认识的我——那个富有之人——如今已不复如此。朋友,这些日子里,我的资财已渐渐凋敝。”
नारद उवाच
Worldly prosperity is unstable; one should speak truthfully about one’s condition without pride, and recognize that wealth can diminish—encouraging humility and detachment.
Nārada addresses a friend and clarifies that, contrary to the earlier impression of him as wealthy, his fortune has now declined; he prepares the listener for what he is about to explain.
