फिर उच्चस्वरसे उन सब लोगोंसे बोले--'देवताओ! जिसके कारण हमने अपने समस्त सुहृदों और बन्धुओंका हठपूर्वक युद्धमें संहार कर डाला और सारी पृथ्वी उजाड़ डाली
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca—tata uccaiḥsvarena te sarvebhyaḥ prāha—“devāḥ! yena kāraṇena vayaṃ sarvān suhṛdo bandhūṃś ca haṭhena yuddhe nihatyākhilāṃ pṛthivīm ujjhāritavantaḥ; yaḥ pūrvaṃ mahati vane asmān mahākleśam anayat; yaś ca nirdoṣāṅgīṃ dharmaparāyaṇāṃ patnīṃ pāñcālarājakumārīṃ draupadīṃ guru-sannidhau bhari sabhāyāṃ ākṛṣya ānītavān—tena lobhinā adūradarśinā duryodhanena saha tiṣṭhan aham etān puṇyalokān prāptum icchāmi na.”
毗舍波耶那说:于是他提高声音,对众人说道:“诸天啊!正因那人,我们执拗地在战争中屠戮了所有亲友族亲,使大地尽成荒芜;先前也是那人,使我们在大森林里饱受沉重苦难;又是那人,将我们无瑕肢体、笃守达摩的妻子——般遮罗王之女德劳帕蒂——在长者面前拖入拥挤的大会。与那贪婪而短视的都律约陀那为伍,我不愿得此等功德天界。”
वैशग्पायन उवाच
Heaven or merit is not desirable if it is morally compromised by association with greed and adharma. Ethical integrity and responsibility for harm done outweigh the allure of reward.
A speaker recalls Duryodhana’s key wrongs—causing the war’s devastation, the exile’s suffering, and Draupadī’s public humiliation—and declares before the gods that he does not wish to attain heavenly worlds while remaining connected with Duryodhana.
