Adhyāya 6: Vidura’s Saṃsāra-Upamā
The Allegory of the Well, Time, and Desire
evaṁ saṁsāracakrasya parivṛttiṁ vidur budhāḥ | yena saṁsāracakrasya pāśān chindanti vai budhāḥ ||
Understanding the repetitive turning of saṁsāra enables a person to break its bonds; wisdom culminates in detachment (vairāgya) and the deliberate cutting of attachments that keep one bound.
Vidura is offering reflective counsel in the aftermath of the war’s devastation, pointing beyond grief and worldly entanglement to the insight by which the wise loosen and sever the bonds of saṁsāra.
