वीरपत्नीभिराकीर्ण गज़ातीरमशो भत । महासागरके समान विशाल वह गंगातट आनन्द और उत्सवसे शून्य होनेपर भी उन वीर-पत्नियोंसे व्याप्त होनेके कारण बड़ी शोभा पाने लगा

Transliteration

vaiśampāyana uvāca | vīrapatnībhiḥ ākīrṇaṃ gaṅgātīram aśobhat | mahāsāgarakasamaṃ viśālaṃ tad gaṅgātaṭam ānanda-utsavaśūnyaṃ api vīrapatnībhiḥ vyāptaṃ sat mahatyā śobhāṃ prāpa |

Translation

毗湿摩波耶那说道：恒河之岸，挤满了阵亡英雄的妻子，景象格外醒目。那宽广的河岸浩瀚如大海；纵然欢乐与庆典尽皆消散，却因这些英烈之妇充塞其间而呈现出一种庄严肃穆的光辉——她们的在场，使哀恸本身也化作对战争代价的沉重见证。
