Vāmadeva’s Rājadharma: Norm-Setting, Counsel, and the Prevention of Rāṣṭra-Vināśa (वामदेव-प्रोक्तं राजधर्मम्)
इस प्रकार श्रीमह्याभारत शान्तिपर्वके अन्तर्गत राजधर्मानुशासनपर्वमें वामदेवजीकी गीताविषयक बानबेवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ ॥/ ९२ ॥ ऑपन-- मा बछ। असल त्रिनवतितमो<ध्याय: वामदेवजीके द्वारा राजोचित बतावका वर्णन वामदेव उवाच यत्राधर्म प्रणयते दुबले बलवत्तर: । तां वृत्तिमुपजीवन्ति ये भवन्ति तदन्वया:
vāmadeva uvāca | yatrādharmaḥ praṇayate dubale balavattaraḥ | tāṁ vṛttim upajīvanti ye bhavanti tad-anvayāḥ ||
瓦摩提婆曰:大王啊,在那国度里,强势之君以非法(adharma)加诸弱民,将压迫视为政略;其党羽随从亦以同样行径为生,把作恶当作谋生之道。
वामदेव उवाच
When a ruler normalizes injustice against the weak, that adharma spreads through the administration: dependents and followers imitate it and even treat oppression as their livelihood. The king’s conduct sets the moral economy of the state.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on rajadharma, the sage Vāmadeva addresses the king and begins describing the consequences of unrighteous governance—how a powerful ruler’s oppression of the weak becomes a model for his entourage.
