This line functions as a colophon: it highlights that the chapter’s core subject is āśrama-dharma—the duties and ethical disciplines appropriate to the four stages of life—presented within Bhīṣma’s broader instruction on rājadharma (good governance and righteous rule).
Bhīṣma’s discourse reaches a formal chapter-end marker. The text signals that the sixty-first chapter, focused on describing the dharmas of the four āśramas, has been completed within the Śānti Parva’s rājadharma instruction section.
