Bhishma highlights that dharma is not only abstract morality but also includes practical sciences and socially grounded norms: medical knowledge about bodily treatment and the customary duties shaped by region, community, and lineage.
In Bhishma’s instructional discourse in the Shanti Parva, he points to the breadth of authoritative knowledge—especially medical science—stating that it systematically explains many therapies and also delineates the dharmas associated with different locales and social lineages.
