Bhīṣma’s Śara-śayyā Stuti to Vāsudeva and Yogic Preparation for Dehotsarga
Body-Relinquishment
dhaumyo vibhāṇḍo māṇḍavyo dhaumraḥ kṛṣṇānubhautikaḥ | ulūkaḥ paramo vitapro mārkaṇḍeyo mahāmuniḥ ||
The verse reinforces that dharma-instruction in the Śānti Parva is supported by the testimony and presence of venerable sages; ethical guidance is presented as rooted in an authoritative ṛṣi-tradition rather than personal opinion.
Vaiśaṃpāyana is listing notable sages—Dhaumya, Vibhāṇḍa, Māṇḍavya, and others—likely as part of a larger catalogue of seers connected with the discourse, thereby framing the ensuing (or surrounding) teachings with respected witnesses and transmitters.
