Service to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Allocation of State Duties
मन्त्रे च निश्चये चैव षाड्गुण्यस्य च चिन्तने । विदुरं बुद्धिसम्पन्नं प्रीतिमान् स समादिशत्
mantre ca niścaye caiva ṣāḍguṇyasya ca cintane | viduraṃ buddhisampannaṃ prītimān sa samādiśat ||
毗湿摩波耶那说:他怀着欢喜之心,任命智者毗度罗掌理谋议之事,作出当行之事的坚定决断,并思量治国六策,使政略由智慧与道义的审慎所引导,而非凭一时冲动。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Good governance depends on intelligent, ethically grounded counsel: deliberation (mantra), clear determination (niścaya), and disciplined reflection on established principles of policy (ṣāḍguṇya) should be entrusted to the truly wise.
The narrator reports that a ruler, pleased and confident, assigns Vidura—renowned for wisdom—the responsibility for advising, deciding courses of action, and contemplating the six diplomatic strategies of statecraft.
