The passage frames spiritual progress as intentional pursuit: the sages identify themselves as Brahmā’s mind-born lineage and describe undertaking a northward journey ‘seeking welfare,’ highlighting disciplined aspiration (kalyāṇa-icchā) and the authority of sage-tradition in dharma discourse.
Bhīṣma recounts that after a prior event, the sages Ekata, Dvita, Trita, and Citraśikhaṇḍī speak to Bṛhaspati, introducing themselves as Brahmā’s mānasaputras and beginning the story of a collective journey toward the northern region for their spiritual good.
