The verse teaches that sattva (the lucid, balanced quality of mind and character) naturally produces joy, goodwill, clarity, happiness, purity, health, contentment, and faith—virtues that support dharmic living and inner steadiness.
In the didactic setting of the Śānti Parva, Yājñavalkya is instructing about the guṇas by listing the observable traits that arise from sattva, distinguishing it from other dispositions and grounding ethical life in cultivated mental qualities.
