भीष्म उवाच
Give only what is earned by righteous means, give it to a deserving person, and give with inner purity—free from anger. After giving, do not feel remorse and do not seek recognition by advertising the gift.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma is advising Yudhiṣṭhira on ethical conduct, specifically the proper spirit and method of dāna (charitable giving): right acquisition, right recipient, right mental state, and discretion after giving.
