pṛṣṭas tvayā cāsmi yathā narendra yathā mayedaṃ tvayi coktam adya | tathā vāptaṃ brahmaṇo me narendra mahājñānaṃ mokṣavidāṃ parāyaṇam ||
That liberating wisdom (mokṣa-jñāna) is a supreme refuge for seekers, and it is transmitted through a lineage of inquiry and instruction—received by Vasiṣṭha from Brahmā and now conveyed to the king.
The king has asked Vasiṣṭha a question about profound knowledge; Vasiṣṭha explains that he is answering in the same spirit of inquiry by which he himself once questioned Brahmā and obtained this teaching, thereby grounding the instruction in an authoritative tradition.
