Jarā-Mṛtyu-anatikrama: Janaka–Pañcaśikha-saṃvāda
Aging and Death Cannot Be Overstepped

The verse teaches viveka: seek likeness/union with the Supreme Self (Paramātman), not identification with insentient prakṛti. True kṣema (welfare) lies in spiritual union rather than material self-identification.
Vasiṣṭha is articulating a renunciant insight within Śānti Parva’s mokṣa-oriented discourse: he rejects merging his identity with inert nature and declares his aim to attain the state of the Supreme.
