Janaka explains a traditional account of how parental contributions are understood in the formation of the body, distinguishing certain bodily constituents as arising from the father and (in the surrounding discussion) others from the mother.
In a didactic exchange in Śānti Parva, King Janaka speaks as a teacher, presenting a schematic division of bodily elements to illustrate inherited qualities and the mixed origin of embodiment.
