Adhyāya 302: Guṇa-vicāra, Gati-bheda, and the Imperishable State
Yājñavalkya–Janaka
महांश्वैवाग्रजो नित्यमेतत् क्षरनिदर्शनम् | कथितं ते महाराज यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि
mahāṁś caivāgrajo nityam etat kṣara-nidarśanam | kathitaṁ te mahārāja yan māṁ tvaṁ paripṛcchasi ||
婆悉吒说道:“当恒常知此为‘刹罗’(kṣara,可坏灭者)的标志:在诸演化之中,‘摩诃特’(Mahat,大原理)确为最初所生。大王啊,依你所问,我已如是为你阐明可坏与不坏之义。”
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The perishable realm (kṣara) is identified by origination and change; its first manifest principle is Mahat (cosmic intellect). Remembering this helps distinguish mutable phenomena from the imperishable (akṣara).
Vasiṣṭha concludes a response to the king’s inquiry, summarizing the defining sign of kṣara and stating that he has explained the doctrine of kṣara and akṣara as requested.
