बुद्धि तमसि संसक्तां तमो रजसि संश्रितम्‌ । रज: सत्त्वे तथा सक्तं सत्त्वं सक्ते तथा55त्मनि

buddhiṁ tamasi saṁsaktāṁ tamo rajasi saṁśritam | rajaḥ sattve tathā saktaṁ sattvaṁ sakte tathātmani ||

毗湿摩说道:“智(buddhi)缠于昏暗(tamas);昏暗又依于激动之性(rajas)。激动亦系于清明(sattva),而清明系于我(ātman)。”就伦理而言,毗湿摩揭示人的辨识如何受三德(guṇa)制约,并指向超越诸德的内在自我,作为安定与趋向解脱之理解的根基。
