Śānti-parva Adhyāya 3: Karṇa’s training under Rāma Jāmadagnya and the Bhārgava restriction on the Brahmāstra

The verse highlights the sanctity of trust within the guru–disciple relationship: when a teacher places confidence in a student, the student’s conduct becomes ethically weighty, and later breaches of truth or duty can yield serious consequences.
Nārada describes Paraśurāma walking near his hermitage with Karṇa. Because Paraśurāma is weakened by fasting and feels tired, he affectionately trusts Karṇa and rests his head on Karṇa’s lap, falling asleep—setting the stage for the subsequent incident traditionally associated with Karṇa’s ordeal and its aftermath.
