Śānti-parva Adhyāya 3: Karṇa’s training under Rāma Jāmadagnya and the Bhārgava restriction on the Brahmāstra
राधेय: कर्ण इति मां प्रवदन्ति जना भुवि । प्रसाद कुरु मे ब्रद्वान्नस्त्रलुब्धस्य भार्गव,कर्ण परशुरामजीके शापके भयसे डर गया। अतः उन्हें प्रसन्न करनेकी चेष्टा करते हुए कहा--'भार्गव! आप यह जान लें कि मैं ब्राह्मण और क्षत्रियसे भिन्न सूतजातिमें पैदा हुआ हूँ। भूमण्डलके मनुष्य मुझे राधापुत्र कर्ण कहते हैं। ब्रह्मन! भृगुनन्दन! मैंने अस्त्रके लोभसे ऐसा किया है! आप मुझपर कृपा करें
rādheyaḥ karṇa iti māṃ pravadanti janā bhuvi | prasāda kuru me brahman astralubdhasya bhārgava ||
迦尔纳说道:“世人于此大地称我为罗陀耶、迦尔纳。噢,婆罗门,噢,婆尔伽瓦,请赐我恩慈;我因贪恋兵器与其秘学而行此事。”
नारद उवाच
Unchecked desire for power (here, greed for weapons/knowledge) can lead to deception and adharma; acknowledging wrongdoing and seeking grace is ethically significant, yet consequences may still follow when trust and propriety are violated.
Karna, fearing his teacher Bhārgava Paraśurāma’s displeasure, identifies himself as ‘Rādheya Karṇa’ as known in the world and pleads for forgiveness, admitting that his conduct was driven by greed for martial weapons and their lore.
