Yoga Definition and Sāṃkhya Enumeration
pratyatiṣṭhaṃs teṣv eva tāny eva sthāpayanty api | bhajante tāni cādyāpi ye bāliśatarā narāḥ ||
Extreme folly is not passive: it keeps a person rooted in harmful, asuric patterns and even leads them to reinforce and spread those patterns. Ethical progress requires recognizing and abandoning such dispositions rather than revalidating them.
Parāśara is instructing his listener within the Śānti Parva’s didactic setting, describing how certain people—due to deep ignorance—continue to uphold and practice the same destructive attitudes, instead of turning toward dharma and discernment.
