Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
न वोढारं धुरं तस्य कश्रिन्मेने प्रजापति:
na voḍhāraṃ dhuraṃ tasya kaścin mene prajāpatiḥ | “sṛñjaya! prajāpati-brahmāṇe indreṇa tulya-parākramaḥ uśīnara-putraḥ rājā śibiḥ; bhūta-bhaviṣya-kāle sampūrṇa-rājānāṃ madhye ’nyaṃ kaṃcana rājānaṃ naiva mene yaḥ śibikāyāḥ kārya-bhāraṃ vahatīti”
风神伐由说道:“为了承当那份重任,生主(Prajāpati)再也找不到第二个担负者。噢,刹利阇耶(Sṛñjaya),乌尸那罗之子施毗王(Śibi)之勇力,堪与生主、梵天(Brahmā)与因陀罗(Indra)比肩。在过去的一切君王与未来将出的君王之中,他断言:再无一位统治者能承担施毗之举所体现的那般责任。”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse elevates Śibi as an ethical ideal: true kingship is measured by the capacity to bear extraordinary moral responsibility—protecting others and upholding dharma—even when it demands immense personal cost.
Vāyu addresses Sṛñjaya and praises King Śibi, stating that Prajāpati judged no other king—past or future—capable of carrying the ‘burden’ represented by Śibi’s famed undertaking, portraying Śibi as uniquely qualified in valor and virtue.
