Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
शममानय संतापं शृणु विस्तरशश्न मे । “मरे हुए महानुभाव भूपतियोंके नाम सुनकर ही तुम अपने मानसिक संतापको शान्त कर लो और मुझसे विस्तारपूर्वक उन सबका परिचय सुनो
śamam ānaya santāpaṁ śṛṇu vistaraśaś ca me | mṛte mahānubhāva bhūpatīnāṁ nāma śrutvaiva tvaṁ mānasika-santāpaṁ śāntim ānaya, mayā ca teṣāṁ sarveṣāṁ vistareṇa paricayaṁ śṛṇu ||
风神伐由说道:“使你内心的灼痛安息,细细听我道来。仅仅听闻那些已逝的伟大君王之名,便当令你心中的折磨平息;随后再从我这里,详尽听取他们所有人的来历与辨识。”
वायुदेव उवाच
Grief and agitation can be steadied through attentive listening and reflective remembrance: hearing the names and stories of noble predecessors helps the mind regain śānti, placing personal sorrow within a wider moral and historical horizon.
Vāyu addresses a listener in distress, urging them to calm down and promising a detailed account. He says that even hearing the names of departed great kings can soothe the listener’s mental pain, after which he will introduce them fully.
