Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
स चेन्ममार सृंजय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया । पुत्रात् पुण्यतरश्चैव मा पुत्रमनुतप्यथा:
sa cen mamāra sṛñjaya caturbhadrataras tvayā | putrāt puṇyataras caiva mā putram anutapyathāḥ ||
噢,室利阇耶,即便是兰提提婆——在先前所说的四种德行上胜过你,功德也远超你之子——也已逝去。若如此之人尚且死亡,你的儿子又何足道哉?因此,不必为你的孩子悲恸。
वायुदेव उवाच
Even the most virtuous and highly meritorious people are subject to death; recognizing this universality of mortality, one should restrain excessive grief and cultivate steadiness of mind.
Vāyudeva addresses Sṛñjaya, citing the example of the famed righteous king Rantideva—superior in the previously described four virtues—to show that death spares no one, and thus Sṛñjaya should not lament his son.
