Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
न ब्रह्मा न च गोविन्द: पौराणा ऋषयो न ते । माहात्म्यं वेदितुं शक्ता याथातथ्येन ते शिव,शिव! आपके माहात्म्यको ठीक-ठीक जाननेमें ब्रह्मा, विष्णु तथा प्राचीन ऋषि भी समर्थ नहीं हैं
na brahmā na ca govindaḥ paurāṇā ṛṣayo na te | māhātmyaṁ vedituṁ śaktā yāthātathyena te śiva śiva ||
毗湿摩说道：“无论是梵天，还是戈文达（毗湿奴），乃至古代诸仙，都不能如实而确切地知晓你的伟大，噢，湿婆——噢，湿婆。”此偈以不可测度来彰显湿婆之威德，即便最高的神祇与吠陀权威亦不能穷尽，从而令听者生起谦卑与虔敬。
