अध्याय २८१ — दानधर्मः, न्यायागतधनम्, ऋणत्रय-परिशोधनं च
Dāna ethics, lawful wealth, and settling obligations
प्राप्तोडस्मि भगवन् देव त्वत्सकाशमनिन्दित । यत् कर्तव्यं मया देव तद् भवान् वक्तुमहसि,'भगवन्! अनिन्द्य देव! मैं आपके निकट आया हूँ। प्रभो! मुझे जो कार्य करना हो, उसके लिये आप मुझे आज्ञा दें!
prāpto ’smi bhagavan deva tvat-sakāśam anindita | yat kartavyaṁ mayā deva tad bhavān vaktum arhasi ||
毗湿摩说道:“噢,至福之主,噢,无瑕而堪受敬礼的天神!我已来到你面前。主啊,请告知我当行何事;就眼前所当尽之责,赐我命令。”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse models dharmic humility: when uncertain about right action, one should approach a worthy authority with reverence and ask for clear instruction about one’s kartavya (obligatory duty), placing ego aside and prioritizing ethical correctness.
Bhīṣma addresses a revered divine figure, stating that he has come near and requesting explicit guidance on what he should do next—framing the moment as a formal appeal for direction in duty and conduct.
