Yudhiṣṭhira’s Remorse and Vyāsa’s Teaching on Impermanence (Śoka-nivāraṇa)

संयोगा विप्रयोगान्ता मरणान्तं हि जीवितम्‌ । सम्पूर्ण संग्रहोंका अन्त विनाश है, सारी उन्नतियोंका अन्त पतन है, संयोगोंका अन्त वियोग है और जीवनका अन्त मरण है

saṃyogā viprayogāntā maraṇāntaṃ hi jīvitam |

毗耶娑宣示无常的普遍法则:一切聚合终归离散,生命本身亦必然以死亡告终。此偈劝人以冷静明辨之心行事——莫执著于财物、关系或世间荣进,因为一切因缘和合之法终将归于坏灭;故当以达摩为立身之本,而非以转瞬之利为依归。
