Kapila and Syūmaraśmi on Renunciation, Householder Support, and Epistemic Authority
उपप्त्त्या हि सम्पन्नो यतिभिश्ैव सेव्यते । सततं धर्मशीलैश्व निपुणेनोपलक्षित:,यही युक्तिसंगत है, यति भी इसीका सेवन करते हैं तथा धर्मात्मा मनुष्य अच्छी तरह विचारकर सदा इसी धर्मका अनुष्ठान करते हैं
upapttyā hi sampanno yatibhiś caiva sevyate | satataṃ dharmaśīlaiś ca nipuṇenopalakṣitaḥ ||
此法立于正理,连诸苦行者(yati)亦奉行之。持守正法之人,审慎辨别之后,恒常践行此道。
तुलाधार उवाच
True dharma is not mere custom or claim; it is a way of life that can be justified by sound reasoning and is confirmed by careful discernment. Because it is rationally grounded, it is worthy of continual practice by the righteous and even by renunciant ascetics.
Tulādhāra is instructing his interlocutor by emphasizing the credibility of the dharma he advocates: it is supported by reason, recognized by the discerning, and practiced consistently by virtuous people and ascetics.
