The verse frames an ethical setting for instruction: when strong emotions arise (Arjuna’s anger), Yudhiṣṭhira responds by formally inviting the authoritative sage Vyāsa and proceeding through respectful dialogue—suggesting that dharmic deliberation should be guided by wise counsel rather than impulse.
Vaiśampāyana narrates to King Janamejaya that Vyāsa has spoken; Arjuna becomes angry; then Yudhiṣṭhira, addressing and inviting Vyāsa, begins to give his reply, transitioning into the next phase of the discussion in the Śānti Parva.
