Yoga-kṛtya (योककृत्य) — Vyāsa on Sense-Restraint, Obstacles, and Brahman-Realization
sarvabhūtāny upādāya tapasas tvaṇāya hi | ādikartā sa bhūtānāṁ tam evāhuḥ prajāpatiṁ ||
Creation and governance of beings is grounded in tapas—disciplined, purposeful power. The title ‘Prajāpati’ signifies not mere authority but the responsibility of originating and sustaining life through ordered, ascetic-intentional force.
Vyāsa identifies the primordial creator as one who ‘takes up’ all beings (their subtle constituents) and, through tapas, becomes the first maker; hence sages designate him Prajāpati, the lord associated with generating and organizing creatures.
