Inquiry into Karma, Knowledge, Fate, and Nature
उग्रसेन उवाच यस्य संकल्पते लोको नारदस्य प्रकीर्तने । मन्ये स गुणसम्पन्नो ब्रूहि तन्मम पृच्छत:
Ugrasena uvāca: yasya saṅkalpate loko Nāradasya prakīrtane | manye sa guṇasampanno brūhi tan mama pṛcchataḥ ||
乌格罗塞那说道:“阇那尔达那啊!世人都渴望歌颂那罗陀的德行;我想此人必定具足卓越品德。因此我向你询问这些德行,请你告诉我。”
उग्रसेन उवाच
Public esteem directed toward praising a person’s virtues is taken as a sign of genuine excellence; the verse frames ethical evaluation through recognized guṇa (virtues) and encourages respectful inquiry into the qualities of the wise.
Ugrasena addresses his interlocutor and asks to be told about Nārada’s virtues, reasoning that someone whom people wish to praise must be truly virtuous.
