Householder Primacy and the Royal Duty of Punishment
अनिसृष्टानि गुरुणा फलानि मनुजर्षभ । भक्षितानि महाराज तत्र मां शाधि मा चिरम्,“नरश्रेष्ठ! मैंने बड़े भाईके दिये बिना ही उनके बगीचेसे फल लेकर खा लिये हैं; महाराज! इसके लिये मुझे शीघ्र दण्ड दीजिये”
anissṛṣṭāni guruṇā phalāni manujarṣabha | bhakṣitāni mahārāja tatra māṃ śādhi mā ciram ||
毗耶娑说道:“噫,人中雄牛,大王啊——未得兄长许可,我便取食了并未赐予我的果实。为此过失,请即刻惩罚我,勿再迟延。”
व्यास उवाच
Even small acts of appropriation—taking something not explicitly permitted—violate dharma. Ethical living includes restraint, respect for authority/elders, and readiness to accept correction without excuses.
Vyāsa addresses a king and confesses that he ate fruits from an elder’s garden without being given permission. He asks for immediate punishment/correction, emphasizing prompt accountability.
