Brahmacarya-Upāya: Jñāna, Śauca, and the Mind’s Role in Desire

Bhishma grounds the forthcoming theological explanation in reliable lineage: the doctrine is ‘heard’ from revered authorities (Parashurama, Narada, and Vyasa), emphasizing that true understanding of the Lord is preserved through trustworthy transmission (śruti/smṛti-style reception) rather than personal speculation.
After Yudhishthira asks for a principled analysis of the Lord’s real nature, Bhishma begins his reply by citing his sources—great sages and seers—thereby establishing credibility before presenting the detailed exposition.
