Wealth gains its highest purpose when dedicated to dharmic acts—especially yajña (sacred offering) and allied giving—because such consecrated use generates spiritual merit and exalted status, exemplified by Indra’s rise and radiance.
Devastāna explains that Indra, through many treasure-endowed sacrifices, surpassed the other gods and attained the office of Indra, shining in heaven; this is cited as a reason to direct one’s resources toward sacrificial, dharmic use.
