Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature
evaṁ ye vidur adhyātmaṁ kevalaṁ jñānam uttamam | yo manuṣyaḥ buddhiyā jīvānām asyāvāgamanapar śanaiḥ-śanaiḥ vicārya tad viśuddham uttamam adhyātmika-jñānaṁ prāpnoti sa paramāṁ śāntiṁ prāpnoti ||
Steady, discerning reflection on the cycle of transmigration (the coming and going of beings) leads a person to pure, highest spiritual knowledge (adhyātma-jñāna), and that realization culminates in supreme peace.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction section, Bhishma continues advising Yudhiṣṭhira on liberation-oriented dharma: he praises the gradual, reasoned pursuit of inner knowledge—associated here with Vidura’s adhyātma teaching—as the means to attain ultimate tranquility.
