On Gratitude and Friendship Ethics
तथा ब्रद्मर्षिभिश्वैव सदस्यैरुपशोभितम् । तदनन्तर कई सहस्र वर्ष व्यतीत होनेपर भगवान ब्रह्माने शास्त्रोक्त विधिके अनुसार वहाँ एक यज्ञ आरम्भ किया। यज्ञकुशल महर्षियों तथा अन्य कार्यकर्ताओंने यथावत् विधिके अनुसार उस यज्ञका सम्पादन किया। वहाँ यज्ञवेदियोंपर समिधाएँ फैली हुई थीं। जगह- जगह अग्निदेव प्रज्वलित हो रहे थे। चमचमाते हुए सुवर्णनिर्मित यज्ञपात्र यज्ञमण्डपकी शोभा बढ़ाते थे। वह यज्ञमण्डल श्रेष्ठ देवताओं तथा सभासद् बने हुए महर्षियोंसे सुशोभित होता था
tathā brahmarṣibhiś caiva sadasyair upaśobhitam | tadanantaraṁ kaiḥ sahasra-varṣa-vyatīte bhagavān brahmā śāstroktavidhinā tatraikaṁ yajñam ārabhata | yajñakuśalā maharṣayaś cānye ca kāryakartāro yathāvad vidhinā tasya yajñasya sampādanaṁ cakruḥ | tatra yajñavedīṣu samidhaḥ prastīrṇā āsan | sthāne sthāne 'gnidevaḥ prajvalito 'bhavat | camacamāṇāni suvarṇanirmitāni yajñapātrāṇi yajñamaṇḍapasya śobhāṁ vardhayanti sma | sa yajñamaṇḍalaḥ śreṣṭhair devataiḥ sabhāsadbhūtaiś ca maharṣibhiḥ suśobhitaḥ āsīt ||
毗湿摩说道:“那神圣的会众由梵仙(Brahmarishi)与诸位显贵之士装点而愈显庄严。其后,历经数千年,吉祥的梵天依照经典所载仪轨,于彼处开设祭祀。精通祭法的大仙人与诸司祭者,皆按法度如仪完成祭事。祭坛之上,供柴铺陈;多处圣火熊熊。金制祭器熠熠生辉,增添祭亭之华美;整个祭域辉煌灿然——由最胜诸天与列坐为会众的伟大圣仙共同映照。”
भीष्म उवाच
The passage emphasizes dharma as disciplined adherence to śāstra (scriptural injunctions): sacred acts gain their legitimacy and ethical force when performed with proper method, qualified participants, and reverence for the divine order represented by Agni and the assembled sages.
Bhishma describes a grand sacrificial scene: after a vast lapse of time, Brahmā initiates a yajña; expert sages and officiants conduct it according to prescribed rites; altars are prepared with fuel, fires blaze, golden vessels shine, and the ritual pavilion is filled with deities and seers as honored assembly members.
