That prescribed purification—immersing in water while reciting the Aghamarṣaṇa three times—can yield merit equivalent to the avabhṛtha bath of an Aśvamedha, highlighting the power of disciplined, sincere practice and authoritative dharma-teaching (Manu).
Śaunaka cites Manu’s statement while discussing dharma-related observances: he presents a specific purificatory act (water-immersion with Aghamarṣaṇa japa) and equates its फल (spiritual merit) with the famed concluding bath of a great Vedic sacrifice.
