Gṛdhra–Jambuka Saṃvāda (Dialogue of the Vulture and the Jackal) — On Grief, Kāla, and Resolve
एवं विलप्य बहुधा करुणं सा सुदु:ःखिता
evaṃ vilapya bahudhā karuṇaṃ sā suduḥkhitā
毗湿摩说道:她以种种方式哀号,声声凄切;然而仍被极深的悲痛所压倒——哀伤一再倾泻而出,令人不禁生怜。

The verse highlights the ethical and emotional reality that suffering is not abstract: intense grief calls forth karuṇā (compassion). In dharma-discourse, acknowledging sorrow becomes a basis for humane judgment, restraint, and moral reflection.
Bhishma narrates that a woman (previously identified in the surrounding passage) laments repeatedly and piteously, remaining in extreme distress. The line functions as a narrative bridge emphasizing the depth of her sorrow before the next development in the story.
