नानार्थिको<र्थसम्बन्धं कृतघ्नेन समाचरेत् । अर्थी तु शक््यते भोक्तुं कृतकार्यो5वमन्यते । तस्मात् सर्वाणि कार्याणि सावशेषाणि कारयेत्
bhīṣma uvāca | nānārthiko 'rthasambandhaṃ kṛtaghnena samācaret | arthī tu śakyate bhoktuṃ kṛtakāryo 'vamanyate | tasmāt sarvāṇi kāryāṇi sāvaśeṣāṇi kārayet |
毗湿摩说：志图多端之人，不可与忘恩负义者结财利之交，也不宜将任何人的事务办到十全十美。因为尚未达成所求者，尚可一再驱使其效劳；而一旦目的既遂，往往便轻慢施恩之人。故而，凡替他人所办之事，当留有余地，使其不至尽了。
