Purification and moral restoration are pursued through humility and service: pleasing the learned with gentle speech and righteous action, cultivating generosity of mind, and aligning one’s life with dharmic social norms—presented here as remedies for the taint of unrighteous gain.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhishma advises on corrective measures for a king stained by adharma. This verse highlights two practical disciplines—sweet speech and good conduct—along with becoming large-minded and forming a marriage alliance with a noble family, as part of a broader regimen of expiation and reintegration.
