Educational Q&A

The passage underscores dharma through disciplined purity and gratitude: one approaches sacred wisdom by first purifying oneself and honoring both gods and ancestors via prescribed rites (snāna and tarpaṇa), then entering the space of higher teaching embodied by Nara–Narayana.

Bhishma narrates a visit to the hermitage of the twin sages Nara and Narayana. He bathes in the celestial pool Vaihāyasa-kuṇḍa, performs ritual offerings to deities and ancestors, and then enters the ashram where the sages dwell in constant, joyful austerity.
