आपद्धर्मे कोशबलन्यायः | Treasury, Force, and Crisis-Ethics for the King
तब मुनिने कहा--राजन्! आपके उस पुत्रने पहले कभी मूढ़ बुद्धिका आश्रय लेकर अपने दुर्भाग्यके कारण एक पूजनीय महर्षिका अपमान कर दिया था ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | arthayan kalaśaṃ rājan kāñcanaṃ valkalāni ca | avajñāpūrvakeṇāpi na sampāditavāṃs tataḥ | nirviṇṇaḥ sa tu viprarṣiḥ niśiśe samapadyata rājan ||
毗湿摩说道:“大王啊,你的儿子曾一度依从愚昧之见,且为自身厄运所驱,早先冒犯了一位为世所敬的大圣仙。那圣仙索求一只金制水罐(迦罗沙)与树皮衣;然而你的儿子纵然显露轻慢,也未备办所求之物。于是那婆罗门圣仙深感沮丧,在夜里因失望而决意采取一条行动之路。”
भीष्म उवाच
A ruler (and his heirs) must uphold dharma through humility and respectful conduct toward the wise; contempt and refusal to honor a righteous request can trigger grave moral and practical consequences.
Bhishma recounts an earlier incident: the king’s son insulted a revered Brahmin sage and failed to provide a requested golden vessel and bark-garments; the sage, distressed, then resolved at night to take some consequential step.
