Mahabharata — Shanti Parva, Shloka 143

Gratitude, Discernment, and the Escalation of Power (Śvā–Dvipī–Vyāghra–Nāga–Siṃha–Śarabha Itihāsa)

tathā kuru mahābāho sarvajñas tvaṃ na saṃśayaḥ |

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores reliance on wise discernment and compassionate action: when fear and danger arise, one should seek refuge in a truly knowledgeable protector, and the protector’s dharma is to act decisively to remove fear.

A frightened speaker petitions a powerful, sage-like figure for protection from a predator. Bhishma’s line affirms the addressee’s omniscience and urges immediate, appropriate action to fulfill the plea and restore safety.
